In januari opende de Kargadoor haar deuren voor de opening van onze foto expositie over mensenrechtenverdedigers die te gast waren bij Shelter City Utrecht. De expositie is nog tot 12 februari te zien.

De expositie bestaat uit portretten van 24 moedige individuen, waaronder een LHBTQI+ rechtenactivist uit Kenia, een burgerrechtenactivist uit Polen, een verdediger van academische vrijheid in Venezuela en een Kirgizische activiste voor persvrijheid.

On December 9th, PBI (Peace Brigades International) welcomed participants to its Insight Day in Utrecht, providing a unique opportunity to explore the organisation’s principles, practices, and fieldwork.

Op vrijdag 3 februari 2022 werd de tentoonstelling ‘UtRecht van de Mens’ geopend in het Stadskantoor in Utrecht. Shelter City Utrecht is een onderdeel van de tentoonstelling die in de ontvangsthal van het Stadskantoor staat, met een videoscherm en foto’s van Shelter City gasten. De thematentoonstelling is vanaf nu gratis te bekijken, tot januari 2024.

Over de aanleiding van de tentoonstelling schrijft de Gemeente Utrecht het volgende:

On November 24th, PBI organized a film screening and discussion about Venezuela with our Shelter City guest Neyls. Neyls also took part in a discussion after the two documentaries were shown, with moderator and PBI volunteer Sarah and translator Hania.

Shelter City Utrecht & Peace Brigades International invite you to the film screening of not one, but two short films! The focus of the evening will be on Venezuela and the 2017 protests. In the first film ‘Where Chaos Reigns’ we will follow Daniella, a young medical student who has rounded up her peers and created a paramedic group called „Green Crosses” in an effort to help those injured in the protests.

On Thursday the 1st of September, PBI organized a film screening and discussion on LGBTQ+ and women’s rights in Poland together with our current Shelter City guest Marta Lempart. Marta also took part in the discussion after the film, together with Agata Korycka, director and screenwriter of ‘By the River’.

Shelter City Utrecht & Peace Brigades International invite you to the film screening of ‘The Night Flowers‘, an award-winning, warm and casually composed portrait of a group of queer young people in Mexico who are trying to feel at home in their conservative environment while preserving their often hard-won identities.

Following the screening, we will discuss more in-depth the greater context of LGBTIQ+ rights and freedom in Mexico.

PBI bestaat 40 jaar! De hele maand september vieren we de #PBIMaand door verhalen op social media te delen van ons belangrijke werk van de afgelopen 40 jaar.

Dit zijn onder andere verhalen over de verschillende PBI-projecten die over de hele wereld zijn geopend (en gesloten) en hoe we ons in de loop der jaren hebben aangepast aan de veranderende behoeften van mensenrechtenverdedigers.
