Peace Brigades International NL invites you on the 4th of December to the next Human Rights Cafe on Women’s Rights in Kenya. Special guest is Rose from Kenya, the current Shelter City Network - For Human Rights Defenders Guest in Zwolle. As a women’s rights defender from Kenya, Rose will speak about her fight for women’s and children’s right in the patriarchal traditional communities in Northern Kenya.

Een van de werkzaamheden van PBI-Nederland is het organiseren van speaker tours met mensenrechtenverdedigers uit landen waar PBI actief is. 18 en 19 april ontvingen we Ana Maria Rodriguez uit Colombia. Ana Maria is juriste en afgevaardigde van een collectief van mensenrechtenadvocaten, genaamd CCJ, waarvoor ze afgezant is bij de Verenigde Naties.

Grassroots Activism: Criminalisation of Human Rights Work in Kenya

Tuesday May 15th, 2018 16:00 - 18:00 hr Stadhuis Utrecht, Korte Minrebroederstraat 2 Peace Brigades International will be hosting a Human Rights Cafe during the Shelter City Bike Challenge Nederland 2018. Our guest-speaker is Francis Sakwa, a grassroots human rights defender from Kenya.

Keniaanse mensenrechtenverdediger Francis Sakwa krijgt momenteel opvang bij Shelter City Groningen. Kenia komt net uit een bewogen verkiezingsproces, gekenmerkt door mensenrechtenschendingen. De Keniaanse politie en veiligheidsdiensten worden ervan beschuldigd buitensporig geweld toe te passen tegen tegenstanders van het regime, voornamelijk tegen de leden van de oppositie. De Keniaanse regering blijft maatregelen nemen tegen activisten zoals Francis.
